Router Item Decorating Tips

Router items Top Tips

Here we will give you some more information on our router products PLUS some top tips on getting the best finish for your painted items!

About our router products

All our router products are cut by a CNC router machine. We mainly cut in 18mm mdf which is freestanding and the odd items in 6mm mdf

You don't get any burnt edges as the machine cuts the items with a drill bit. This may sometimes leave a rough 'fluffy' edge due to the fibres in the MDF. We will sand all items before sending to you but you may want to do a little more preparation and sanding during painting for an extra super smooth finish as we will explain below.

How to get a super smooth finish to your router items

Choose your item

What you need

Step one

Paint a single coat onto your item with either a paint brush or a roller

Step two

Sand all the sides with a medium grade sandpaper to make them super smooth

Lightly sand the front and back with a low grade sand paper to smooth out any paint lines/marks

Step three

Repeat with another coat of paint and lightly sand the sides and front with a low grade sandpaper.

Touch up any areas needed or apply a 3rd thin coat of paint to finish

Sanding in between coats of paint gives a super smooth finish to your router makes and really makes all the differrence

Step four

Decorate your item

we have done a a dot dash edging in a white uniball gel pen and finished with americana gloss lacquer sealer for a shiny and protected finish
